Denise Uwanyuze: A Flower From Kigali Garden

Leaving Jari Mount behind, a special airplane pierced bright cotton-like clouds above Kigali Mount, touring Kigali capital city, waiting for its right time to land.
Meanwhile, an Air France jet was flying above Amahoro national stadium, getting down little by little. It was Thursday afternoon on a summer day. As scheduled, three air-planes had left for Europe in the morning; four were expected to land at Grégoire Kayibanda international airport at Kanombe in the afternoon. In green, Denise Uwanyuze was sitting down in the drawing room--alone. She absent-mindedly moved her eyes from a V-like pot of strange rosy flowers to a particularly big battlefield picture, in front of her; she seemingly paid much attention to a confident sergeant bearing a pink flag of hard-won, recovered peace. In earnest mood, Denise was eating a long banana, meditating on her husband`s plight, unaware of what was happening outdoors, unconscious of the din made by the forthcoming plane. She lived at Kanombe, near the airport inaugurated about one year before.
At seven o`clock on July 28,1989,Denise queued behind a huge fenced yard rooming a horrendous, gloomy, huge building labeled 1930-- Kigali prison built in 1930.It was Friday, the sole day kin and friends visited detainees. In front of Denise stood a stinking
old man in rags, smoking his pipe, holding four soaps in his left hand; unknown to him, some lice were exploring his hair. Behind Denise stood a smelly, dirty, skinny young man who was apparently fascinated by her. Denise was a regal, young lady. She was twenty-one. In blue, she wore a very clean shirt and fashionable trousers, conspicuously revealing a splendidly well-shaped feminine body. Nature had endowed her with a bright face with soft plump cheeks and lovely large eyes. Her divinely perfumed hair was abundant. Silent, Denise was listening to people on her right side, sitting down on the nearby grassy land, chatting to kill time. She held a clean box on her left hand.
"I wonder why women and men are jailed in the same prison", said Conrad Seminega, looking at Philomène Mukasakindi.
"That`s unfair indeed. Women should have their own prison", said Philomène.
"And former ruling people should not be jailed together with ordinary men. A former
burgomaster, a former prosecutor or a former minister should not be imprisoned in the same building together with inveterate robbers, dirty drunkards or poor prostitutes", added Ferdinand Gahamanyi.

"That`s right. And untried detainees should not be jailed together with convicts", added Anita Niyimbona.
"Moreover, immature detainees should be isolated from adult ones; and genuine criminals sentenced to death should be isolated from convicts charged with peccadilloes", stepped in Bonaventure Rukara.
"No one should spend at worst thirty days in prison without being tried. There are people who spend two years, if not more, in prison without being tried! And surprisingly enough, some of them, once tried, are deemed innocent. Worse, there is no compensation for such innocent victims", added Conrad.
"Conditions of detention should be improved, too. Detainees should be well fed. They should be visited every weekday, and not once a week. This appalling prison is too old and crowded. It should be replaced by a new, larger one", said Ferdinand.
Philomène Mukasakindi was thirty- three. She was a nurse whose husband had raped Flora Fifi, a fourteen-year-old girl. Prosper Ndahiro had been sentenced to twenty years in prison. He had just spent ten years in prison.
Conrad Seminega was forty. He was a businessman whose wife had helped Gisele Kabebe, a medical assistant, to abort. Doctor Ancilla Nyirabasinga was thirty. She had been sentenced to five years in prison. She had just spent one year in jail.
Anita Niyimbona was forty-five. She was an elementary school teacher whose son had stolen and sold a motorcycle. Tharcisse Kagimbangabo had not yet been tried. He had just spent twelve months in jail.
Bonaventure Rukara was fifty. He was a civil servant whose daughter had aborted. Sylvie Nyirabiyoro had been sentenced to five years in prison. She had just spent two years in jail.
Ferdinand Gahamanyi was thirty-five. He was a mechanic whose sister had embezzled public funds. Former burgomaster of Nyarugenge commune, Nicole Nyirabakungu had been sentenced to three years in prison. She had just served one year in prison.
While people were chatting, cows and bulls were grazing nearby. Denise carefully listened, secretly gazing, at the same time, at the strongest bull on her right side. All of a sudden, the bull penetrated the nearest cow under the applause of excited people around Denise. The topic of conversation changed from prison matters to sex.
"What a wonderful penetration! What a wonderful bull!" said one man, loudly clapping his hands and laughing.
"That`s a wonderful penetration indeed!" said a woman, giggling, looking at her smiling fellow women.

As people kept on making comments on sexual matters, Denise remembered the last love- affair enjoyed with her husband one day before he got jailed. It was eleven o`clock at night. The bedroom was lightened. They were in bed; there was a small table near the bed. There were four empty glasses and three full bottles on the table: two glasses of wine, a glass of beer and a glass of soft drink; one full bottle of wine, one full bottle of
beer, one full bottle of soft drink. There were seven full bottles of wine under the table, bought two days before. There were seven pieces of cake and a cake knife on the table. There was a box of seven sweets on the table.
"Denise, my sweet love, you are a wonderful wife", said Wilson Rukundo, kissing her fleshy lips after removing his blue drawers.
"Any time I saw a beautiful woman in Johannesburg, I thought of you. One month abroad- away from you- was too much for me. You are so precious to me. Kiss me once again", he mumbled, caressing his wife`s superb buttocks, removing her purple drawers.
"I love you very much indeed", he added, burning with desire, caressing her genitals.
" So do I, darling", said Denise, responding to his caresses.
"Let`s do it once again, my sweet love, I want you very much", he said.
"All right, darling; let`s do it once again", she said.
Then Wilson topped Denise, and greedily introduced his penis into her delightful vagina. He kissed her over and over again, holding her head gently, before penetrating her properly. In a well-lightened room, Wilson splendidly made love to Denise, looking at her lascivious, lovely, large eyes, kissing her sweet lips at will, pleasantly responding to the graceful movements of her body, to her alluring deep sighs and sweet words.
"That`s sweeter...my sweet...sweet husband. Once more...Once... moooore. Hit me...meee...meee... Hit me very hard and fast...All right, darling. Move it quicker...quicker, dear...Yeeees...yeees ...That`s sweeter...Deeper and deeper...deeper and quicker...That`s nice...nice...nice...Once more...That`s all right...Deeper and deeper...That`s wonderful, darling.... I want to top you, my sweet husband", said Denise, making eyes at him, enjoying sexual pleasure.
Then Denise caressed her husband`s penis, kissed it and introduced it into her vagina. She lasciviously kissed him and hugged him, marvelously swaying her graceful, nice buttocks to the great satisfaction of both of them.
"Ilove you, my sweet wife, you are so graceful, so wonderful", said Wilson, enjoying ecstasy.
"I love you, too, my sweet darling", said Denise, kissing Wilson, caressing his hairy,
beefy, large-shouldered body.
"In a week or so, we will visit Akagera national park or we will go to swim into lake Kivu; what do you think about that? What do you prefer?"said Wilson, lying on her back, keeping his left hand on Denise`s hair.
"We will first leave for Gisenyi beach next week; I am eager to swim into Kivu Lake. Then, we will visit Akagera national park in a couple of weeks; I want to see once again zebra, lions, buffalloes, hippopotamuses, etc.", said Denise in enthusiastic mood.

When Denise`s mental voyage into her past ended, inner voices spoke to her.

First Voice: You are burning with desire! Remain faithful to your husband.
Second voice: You are burning with desire indeed! Have sex today.
Third voice: With whom?
First voice: Remain faithful to your husband.
Second voice: That`s an iron social convention. Be faithful to Nature, too. Have sex today. Be faithful to your husband when he is present! He is now in jail! Be faithful to Nature like that cow and that bull. Animals do it when they need it. In public! And without shame! Do you know why? Because they are honest! Because it is natural to enjoy sexual pleasure when in need. It is natural and therefore right. Tell me; are you inferior to cows and bulls?
Third voice: You are not an animal.
First voice: You are not an animal indeed. You are a civilized human being; a woman to be loved by one man. A woman to love one husband. You must always be faithful to him even when he is absent.
Second voice: That`s not right. Love him, but live! Make love when in need. He is in prison, he is absent. You are now free to have sex with another man. You are now burning with desire. Find a lover and enjoy sexual pleasure. You are made to give pleasure and to enjoy it. Be faithful to Nature like cows and bulls. Are they smarter than you are? It is unfair to live like a jailed woman when you are free! To have a husband in prison does not end your life!
Third voice: That`s not right. Be faithful to your husband.
First voice: Whatever happens to your husband, remain faithful to him. You are free to get an other legitimate lover only when your husband dies. He is now in prison but he will come back. Keep your promise as you have done so far. You did not commit adultery throughout the eleven months spent together after your marriage. That is good. You did not commit adultery when Wilson was in South Africa for one month. That was very good. You have remained faithful to him during the three months he has just spent in prison. That`s very fine. Remain faithful to him until he comes back. That`s what any genuine wife must do. Remember that you married him "for the best and the worst".
Second voice: Imagine fifteen months of faithfulness! That`s too much! You should no more reject generous lovers who want you so much. The cow has not rejected the bull, has it? Any time it needs a bull, it looks for it and gets topped. Any time the bull needs a cow, it tops it. It tops the nearest. You are burning with desire, find a lover and have sex. That`s why you were made; you are so graceful. Do not reject any more lovers as you have done so far. Do you remember? You rejected Samuel, Fabien, Didier and Michael throughout the eleven first months after your marriage. They were, and are still, handsome men. You rejected Mark, Donat, Esron and Emily when your husband was in South Africa; they were, and are still, powerful men. You rejected Robinson, Paulin, Gerald, Moses and Damien during these last three months. They were, and are still, wealthy men. And all of them are still eager to top you. Tell me, how long will you reject greedy, irresistible, handsome and powerful men? How long will you enjoy security if you don`t make love with them? Who will then protect you during your husband`s absence? Lust and love are different matters. Keep on loving your husband but have sex with other men for their pleasure and yours, your mental peace and your social protection. How long will you refuse to enjoy sexual pleasure especially during this very hot season? A lover would be welcome today! You need a male to quench that libido. You need a male like that cow! A strong male like that bull! A male! A wonderful wooer like your husband!
Third voice: Remain faithful to Wilson.
First voice: Your husband will be back very soon. Be patient. Remain faithful to your husband. God will help you. Your husband will be released very soon.
Second voice: How do you know?
Third voice: God will help him .He loves him very much and He loves you, too.
First voice: God loves you; He cannot abandon you. Your husband will be freed very soon.
Second voice: How do you know? When is he coming back? Maybe in twenty years. And you will be forty-one! Imagine! You will be too old to please him! How do you know that he will come back? There are detainees who die in prison! He may die inside the jail, too.
Third voice: He will come back very soon.
First voice: Indeed, he will come back very soon.
Second voice: How do you know?
Third voice: As long as Wilson is alive, remain faithful to him. He will be back very soon. God will free him. He loves both of you very much.
First voice: Remain faithful to him. Keep in mind that if you have sex today, you will be pregnant.
Second voice: There are condoms! Use them and quench that troublesome lust. Your husband won`t know. If ever he were informed you would lie to him. He would have no evidence.
Third voice: Pray; God will help you.
First voice: That`s a sound piece of advice. Pray; God will help you. He will free your husband very soon.
Second voice: How do you know?
