Twenty-four year old Vanessa entered the cafeteria of the call center
building where she worked on the weekends. A part-time job she didn't prefer,
but needed to help fund her life while she was attended school full-time. She
was walking with a co-worker, but spotted another co-worker that she was more
interested in having lunch with. After collecting her meal, Vanessa excused
herself to go and sit with that other co-worker, Hailey. They had met each other
a few months ago and Vanessa really liked her. She and Hailey had a lot in
common; plus Hailey was funny, intelligent and gorgeous. Vanessa made her way
over to Hailey's table. "Hey hun, why are you eating alone?" she asked her.
"Oh, I was just waiting for the right someone to make their way over to
join me." Hailey joked.
"Hhmmm, do you mind if that someone is me?"
Hailey smiled with a wink. "Please, join me. You're just the right kind
of company I prefer."
"So how are you? Anything new and exciting happening?" Vanessa asked
after sitting down, her mind reflecting on Hailey's last words... "you're just
the right kind of company I prefer". She picked up a french fry from her plate
and took a bite.
"Well, all is good on my end, thanks. Just the usual of constantly being
tired due to my life consisting of nothing but school and work, but you can
appreciate that."
"Yes, I definitely can appreciate that and I know how you feel.
Sometimes I wonder how I manage to even make it through the day. It will be
worth it in the end, so we just gotta keep on keeping on, I guess." Vanessa
laughed.
Hailey nodded in agreement. "I could really do with an evening of doing
something besides studying. In fact, a movie sounds good. There are a lot of
new releases that just came out. If you're up for it, we could go together; get
a break from our crazy schedules."
"That sounds like a great idea," Vanessa responded enthusiastically, not
so much because of the movie, but because she really liked Hailey and wanted a
chance to get to know her better. A girl's night out at the movies would be a
good opportunity to get some more insight on Hailey. "Tomorrow night is a good
time for me if you're free as well."
"As a matter of fact, I am free as well; it's a date!" Hailey replied.
The ladies chatted while they finished eating their lunches. Their lunch
time was only for a half an hour, so they didn't have much time before they had
to hurry back to their cubicles in the call center. It was funny how a chance
meeting could result in a friendship that seemed to have existed for years. It
was only a few months ago that they ran into each other in the hall at work, literally.
Hailey was distracted by reading over some school notes on her tablet as she
walked and Vanessa was talking on her phone. Neither of them was admittedly paying
any attention to where they were going and they collided into each other.
Vanessa apologized, Hailey told her it wasn't her fault, and they went back and
forth with their apologies. Vanessa started laughing and told Hailey that since
she refused to let her apologize, she should at least let her buy her a cup of
coffee. Hailey agreed and that was the beginning of their friendship. At first,
it just seemed like a normal, innocent friendship between two co-workers. As
time went on, however, things started to change. Vanessa found herself
powerfully attracted to Hailey, and she suspected that Hailey might also have
some feelings towards her, yet neither of them voiced their feelings. Instead,
each of them kept their emotions to themselves, unsure of whether the other
felt the same way and each of them all too aware of the palpable connection and
sexual tension growing between them.
