EXTRACT FOR Bianca (Kelly Addams)
Excerpt from Bianca
Success had come as a massive shock! It had been the overnight variety and had caught the young woman unprepared. It all began at the very end of her college years. She had taken a break before work and travelled. From a comfortable background, Bianca hadn't felt the financial pressure that most of her peers suffered, she could afford to take a year out to travel before deciding where her life would lead... and so she had found herself bumming around Southeast Asia soaking up the sights and sounds and culture. Bangkok had opened its arms wide and sucked her to its seedy bosom, and it had opened her eyes... wide. She witnessed every form of depravity and sexual excess in the back streets, she experienced the legal, the dubious and the downright forbidden, and as time passed she found herself drawn toward what many considered taboo. Taboo was stimulating, normal was boring. Vanilla is such an apt word she would often remark. Vanilla sex didn't appeal to her at all, she liked spice, she liked heat, she liked to shock.
And it was that mindset that had led her down an unexpected path.
She had been drunk. Staggering drunk.
The bar had been the back street variety, and leaving in the early hours she had slipped on crooked wooden stairs. Several hours later she had opened her eyes to the sight of stained and dusty ceiling panels where a broad bladed fan creaked as it slowly rotated, the stench of antiseptic and stale urine surrounded her, and she was filled with a dull ache that began in her head and sharpened considerably when it reached her left ankle.
"Hospital?" she had whispered as her muddled mind began to clear. "Yep!" she groaned as she raised her head painfully and saw the new cast that enveloped her ankle.
Of course it was broken, and the break had been significant. Her travelling was stalled, for quite a few months she was informed. She faced a choice, recuperate back in England, or remain in Bangkok. The choice was simple, all that she had to do was find a way to pass the time.
And so began an important chapter in her life. Bianca settled herself on the balcony of a rented apartment, and with a computer balanced on her lap... she began to write.
At first she simply assembled her thoughts, she had seen and experienced so many things... and the ideas flooded forth. Two weeks passed and Bianca took stock.
