An hour and one more beer later, Brad decided it was time to start making some moves. He roamed the club as the dance music continued to thump from the multitude of speakers throughout the place. The first girl he approached didn't even let him get a word out. She held her palm out to his face, effectively telling him not to bother. Brad didn't believe in wasting time on women who were hard work, so he took the rejection in his stride and moved on.
The next one, a blonde, chatted to him politely. But when the boyfriend appeared from out of nowhere and wrapped his arms protectively around his girl, Brad knew a quick retreat was in order.
More people streamed in through the front entrance. The place was packed now and the ratio of girls to guys was blowing out. If the club got overrun with men, then all the women would start to go on the defensive. Brad had to find a prospective target and find her soon.
As he weaved through the swelling crowd, he felt someone pinch him on the bum. He turned and looked into the pretty and smiling face of a young woman with long, light-brown hair. Her hazel eyes were warm and friendly and held just a hint of mischief. She was with a group of friends, both male and female, at one of the tables. Brad returned her smile and introduced himself.
The girl put a hand on his shoulder and brought her mouth close to his ear so she could be heard above the music. "My name's Stacey." Her breath tickled his ear a little, but it felt nice. "Are you out prowling on your own?"
'Prowling'. Interesting choice of terminology.
"Yes," he admitted. "I find I work better alone."
She grinned again. "Do you plan to stay alone all night, Brad?"
He shook his head. "I plan to go home with some female company."
"Me too," she was candid. "Though my preference is for male, not female."
Brad lightly placed his arm around her. "Great. We're a perfect match then."
"Just so we're clear," she began, her expression suddenly more serious. "I'm not after a boyfriend. Just some fun."
"A one night stand."
"Exactly."
