EXTRACT FOR The Alpha Dragon's Baby Ducklings (Dakota Wolf)
Drake
I couldn't sleep a wink. Why did my alpha father get to choose my mate? It didn't make sense. I paced my room in frustration. There was no way in hell I was going to marry that shifty fox. First, I didn't trust him as far as I could throw him - which, being a dragon was probably pretty far. Second, I just didn't click with him.
Was that so wrong? To want to click with your mate? I shook my head. I needed a bite to eat. I couldn't think on an empty stomach. I made my way through my large, cavernous mansion. It was large enough that I could easily change forms at any point in the house.
I looked around at my opulent possessions and sighed. All of this meant nothing without a mate to share it with.
As I made my way to the kitchen, I thought about my perfect omega. Handsome, intelligent and helplessly cute. I smiled, wondering if there was someone who fit that description out there waiting for me. Surely, there had to be, right?
I'd heard tales of fated mates being brought together seemingly out of the blue - mates who would've never normally found each other. But they did. Seemingly against all odds.
Could that happen to me?
I closed my eyes and pictured us walking together and being together and even making out.
But before I could reach the kitchen, I heard a noise that stopped my heart cold in my chest.
See, being a large dragon, I lived alone. I didn't need no butlers or help to keep my mansion in tip-top shape. I did it all myself. I actually enjoyed that type of thing. So there shouldn't have been any noises coming from anywhere in the house.
Even though I was a large dragon of noble heritage, I still shivered slightly in the face of uncertainty. I stopped and tuned my ears toward the source - the kitchen.
There it was again! Now I was 100% sure something - or someone - was in there. Being a dragon, there was literally nothing outside of a military tank that could hurt me. Nothing. Bullets just deflected off my extremely thick hide.
But what on earth could've slipped past my security system? That thing was locked down tight.
I shifted into my dragon form and vowed to find out.
Slowly and far more stealthy than one would think a dragon could be, I stalked into the darkened kitchen. I sniffed the air, but smelled nothing out of the ordinary. Was it some kind of an animal? Doubtful, but one never knew.
The air was thick with tension as I inched my large frame toward the source of the noise. For one brief moment, I had completely forgotten all about my father's meddling. For that I was grateful. But who was here?
"Ahem!" I cleared my throat as I saw a...large duck rummaging around my fridge.
What the hell?
The duck turned toward me, took one look at my large dragon form and promptly fell over unconscious.
A duck?
