"Yes! Yes, you're catching on. We're training Angela for hardware. She's quite a catch," Mr. Worth says and winks at me.



I furrow my brow. "So, if Angela isn't in lingerie, who did you promote to that area?"



"Joanie Collins." Mr. Worth sits back and chuckles as I let that sink in.



"Joanie," I say and nod with a grin. She's a tom boy, chopped hair, take charge type. She's better suited, in my opinion, in the department from which she was pulled, sporting goods. She just looks like the type that would be out on the field with a cap on her head and a whistle in her mouth, and no make-up, of course.



"What do you think of that choice?"



"Well, sir, quite honestly, she's not one I would have chosen for lingerie," I say and laugh. "Who's her double?" Every department in the store has a double, meaning two clerks work the same area. Ironically, I work with an older lady named Sarah in my department.



"That's the main reason I've called you in here, Micah. I'm thinking of offering the position to you," he says.



I do a doubletake. "You want me to work lingerie with Joanie?" I laugh.



"I want you to spend a season in there, yes. You are one of the main ones we're looking at a big manager's promotion in the future. Before we can promote you, we need to see you work all the departments. What do you say about that?" Mr. Worth asks.
