"Hey you can't do that," Tyler said.
"I just did, get the camera ready."
She grabbed the microphone, and tape
recorded. Through the glass doors, she could see everyone was standing over to
one side but didn't see the bandit. This was his fourth robbery. Jake wore
jeans, plaid shirt, tan work boots, a long black, fake beard, and a yellow
construction helmet. He always stood in line like he was going to cash a check
or make a deposit. He picked banks because tellers were trained to give
everything in the drawer quickly and get the person out of the bank so no one
would get hurt. He thought about hitting convenience stores but then the clerk
may try to be a hero, and some of them would have a gun. Tellers were never armed,
and the small branch banks wouldn't have an armed security guard. He would get
on his motorcycle parked outside, drive a different route each time to the
construction site, and go back to work. However, today, when he showed the
teller the gun and the note, the teller turned white and started breathing
erratically. He had been in Delta Force and trained as a medic and knew it was
a panic attack. He jumped over the counter and had her get down on the floor in
a fetal position to calm her. The manager hit the silent alarm.
Nicky was just inside the door when
the Paramedics pulled up. She held the door open for them. He stood up from
behind the counter and said, "She is over here." The Paramedics came around the
counter, and then he noticed Nicky.
"Hey get out of here," he said
waving the gun at her. The bank employee and customers got down on the floor
afraid he was going to start shooting.
"I'm Nicky Lake, Channel 5."
"I know who you are."
The police moved forward using the
news van for cover. They wouldn't let Tyler go in with the camera. Now the
paramedics stopped realizing they were in the middle of a robbery. He didn't
mention that when he called them.
"You can come back. She is just
having a panic attack."
