Tears immediately sprung to Krista's eyes when she beheld the beautiful brand new red sports car parked beside her mother's SUV. The older woman beamed at her daughter as she threw her arms around her neck. "Darling, you deserve this. You've worked so hard while attending nursing school and then you passed your driving test, plus you turned twenty-one, all in the same week. It's time you come into your own," Mother said.



Krista hugged her mother tightly and squealed as she opened the door, the white leather seats smelled absolutely delicious. She had waited to take her driving test until she finished her schooling and received the associates in nursing degree first. She didn't want the distractions that came with having a car. Her mother dropped her off at school and she had no choice but to stay and study. When she passed all her exams, she studied for her driving test and passed on the first try.



"I don't know what to say! I never expected this," Krista said, as she wiped the tears from her eyes with the back of her hand.



"Thank you will do. And do a good job with your nursing skills," Mother said, as she beamed at her daughter, so proud of all her accomplishments.



"Thank you! I figured I'd be driving ole rusty until I saved money for a car," Krista said as her eyes swung to the old truck parked by the lawn mower shed. She'd learned how to drive in the old truck and was okay to drive it around for a while. But the new car was quite a surprise.



Sitting in the front seat, Krista ran her hand over the butter soft leather. The console had every gadget a new car could have including GPS. The stereo, most important in Krista's mind, had speakers in the front and rear. It could adjust the base and treble. "Oh, it even has satellite radio service!" Krista's eyes widened as she flipped through the many channels at her disposal.



Sonia, Krista's best friend, arrived and piled quickly out of her own small car and squealed as she raced to Krista. After sitting in the front seat, she grinned at her friend. "Were you surprised?" Sonia asked.
