Chapter 1

'Sir...sir can you hear me at all? Please open your eyes so I can know you are not badly hurt, please Sir!' Millie found herself speaking desperately in her panic as she leaned carefully over the body of a man laying down awkwardly and seemingly unconscious on the sandy floor.

'Millie...do you think, you know...do you think that he is dead?' Millie's sister Lucinda voiced the dreaded thought as she stood up from behind her.

Not answering Lucinda at first Millie reached for the man's wrist to feel for his pulse.

'He's alive, he's alive!' Millie turned to her sister with relief, 'go get Tony and the other men we need to bring him back to the house. And run Lucinda there is no time to hesitate, we do not want his condition to worsen. I will watch over him while you are away.'

'Sorry...of course yes, I will send for help,' Lucinda snapped out of her trance that had had her staring down at the man to turn to run back as fast as her legs could carry her.
