Chapter 1

'The famous Red Bandit has travelled to this glorious part of the country, I don't believe it?' I spoke with my childhood friend Caroline, as we sat down leisurely together on a bench looking out upon her picturesque garden.

'Oh but he has, though I wish it were not so. There have been several sightings of him, and he robbed the James,' acquaintances of ours not two week's ago. So please tell your men to be vigilant and careful when they take you back home tomorrow, I would leave nothing to chance.'

'Caroline I have listened to your words of caution, I will make sure that my men keep their eyes open as will I for any highwaymen,' I spoke casually not too put out by her words and wondering if bumping into the Red Bandit might bring some excitement into my life. But as soon as I thought of it, I dismissed the very notion from my mind, knowing it was not sensible to want anything to do with the notorious Red Bandit.

'I think I might take a walk around your gardens, it may be my last chance to do so before I leave, will you walk with me too?' I asked as I stood up changing quickly the direction of our conversation, despite me not having any high hopes of Caroline actually joining me as I looked down at her protruding belly that showed her advanced pregnancy.

'Sorry Cassandra I am feeling too tired all of a sudden, I think I will just rest here for a while, but not to worry, for there is Mr Reynolds walking towards us right now I am sure he will be more than happy to oblige you and take my place,' Caroline spoke with a grin, which had me resisting rolling my eyes, before turning to greet Mr Reynolds as Caroline had prepared me for.
