Chapter 1

'Put me down! Let me go!' Rebecca screamed.

Nathan lowered the struggling load from his shoulders and placed it on the ground, relieved that he was now in a safe place that he recognised.

Rebecca turned around to sit with her bottom on the ground. She was glad not to be roughly carried any longer. Once her regular breathing returned, she stood up and reached for the blindfold wrapped around her eyes. She was anxious to see for the first time in what seemed like hours.

'My lady, let me help you with that,' came the deep, calm voice that she had come to recognise as the man who had captured and carried her away. She had heard him speak with the other men as they travelled.

'Don't you even dare! You come one step closer, and I will bite off your fingers.'

Laughter broke out all around at her angry response.

'Nathan, looks like you picked up a fiery one there. She is a pretty little thing, but with the roar of a bear,' one of the men joked. 'You will have your hands full with that one!'

'Leave her be. She has acted well considering the situation.... Most young women would have been crying buckets if they had been kidnapped, but she has been brave - and she even attempted to fight back.'
