Chapter 1

'Jen don't worry, Richard will notice you...just give it some time. He'll will soon see through that slut bitch Susie and come running towards you instead of her!'I spoke as I looked into the mirror and noticed with some annoyance my tired looking eyes, pale complexion and lifeless looking untidy hair.

'You're a strong, independent, attractive woman...,' I reassured myself, well I knew at least I could be when I was not working all hours of the day and night, trying to do the bulk load of tasks to impress my boss, all whilst my lazy colleague Susie was battering her long eyelashes and trying to get everyone in the office including myself to do her share of the workload.

'Honey I don't want to be the one to break the bad news to you, but no sane red blooded male is going to give you a chance, not in the state you're in, and your behaviour is practically depressing,' came a soft feminine voice from nowhere.

'What? Who just said that?' I stepped away from the mirror in alarm looking all around me to spot a potentially rude intruder. When I was not able to locate the source of the unexplained voice I slowly and cautiously entered into every room of my small apartment to look around, whilst clutching anxiously to an umbrella in my right hand, even though I was not quite sure what I would do with it if I were to actually find and confront someone!

'It's one thing talking to yourself as you do from time to time, but hearing voices now that crosses the line, meaning it's time to go to bed, it's been a long day and tomorrow you will be feeling more like yourself,' I spoke with reassurance and relief as I ran my fingers through my long blonde hair and yawned out loudly.

'Hello Jenny, I'm afraid you are not hearing voices in your head because it is I who am talking to you.....me Georgina.'

'Who just said that? Show yourself now to me or I am going to call the cops!' I jumped around in frustration still unable to locate the mystery voice.

'I'm afraid that calling the cops will do you no good, they, after all, cannot arrest someone that they cannot see or hear, and who isn't quite all here in this world, can they now?' The voice came out causally with bemusement.

'You're a....a....' Surely it couldn't be, my mind could not fully comprehend it, 'you're a ghost?' My voice wavered as I spoke.

'Well I guess that is one way of putting it, I have lived in this lovely apartment for just over one hundred and sixty years, and fifty of them when I was made of flesh and blood. I am pretty much bound to this place, fortunately, or unfortunately.'

'Do you really aspect me to believe that I am at this very moment talking to some ghost, I don't even believe in such things.....this is crazy, I just need to go to bed just as I said before, sleep this all off and all will be back to normal tomorrow.'

'Jenny really...you don't even trust yourself on hearing the truth of my words, you actually think you are imagining all this, no wonder you seem to be having no luck with the gentleman you are constantly speaking of to yourself, Richard isn't it, that's his name?'

'You know nothing about Richard or me, so please keep your opinions to yourself,' I snapped after feeling near to cracking. 'I am sorry Georgina, this is all so surreal, but let's say that I am not just imaging all of this as you say, and you are actually a ghost....then why have you only just revealed yourself after I moved into this apartment over six months ago, it doesn't make any sense?'

'Well my answer to that is quite simple, I revealed myself today because I felt pity for you,' Georgina's response was clear and straight to the point.

'Sorry I am not sure I caught your meaning, did you just say that you pitied me?!' I struggled with her words, if Georgina were a ghost then she had no right to pity me, it should be the complete opposite way, it would almost be laughable if it wasn't so tragic instead.
