In this short story lesbian fiction tale, Carrie's recent split from her domineering ex partner finds her traveling back to Austin, Texas to spend time with her sister and her two young nieces. Searching for a new meaning and a new direction in her life, Carrie is unsure on just where she might find it but there is something about Austin that is calling out to her.
Offering to take her two nieces to a local carnival for the day, Carrie finds herself enjoying the company of her nieces yet simultaneously troubled with some of her surroundings. She has always been inexplicably anxious over the safety of carnival rides and tries to resist allowing her nieces to go on some of the rides.
While riding one of the carnival's more vintage rides, Carrie experiences what feels like a moment of deja vu and she is thrown back to a time when she was young lovers with a fellow female carnival worker. Flashes of lesbian love, her natural sixth sense and tragedy leave Carrie reeling and she exits the carnival ride a changed person.
