STORY DESCRIPTION

This isn't a new work, it's the three stories in the New Government trilogy gathered together and re-edited. Ascendancy is over 104000 words long and describes the rise to power of the patriarchal New Government.

Set slightly in the future, it details how women are slowly stripped of their rights and privileges by a new anti-feminist government intent on reducing them to what it considers to be their rightful place in society.

Women are systematically removed from all positions of influence and are either demoted or dismissed. Re-education centres are everywhere and women can be committed to one for almost any 'crime'. Conditions inside are strict, corporal punishment is common.

Consequently, there's also a large rise in unemployed, middle-class females. Many are fortunate enough to acquire menial jobs, or to gain a place 'in service', being at the beck and call of their employees. Willing to do anything to avoid dismissal and the Workhouse.

Overseeing all of this is the hierarchy of the New Government, manipulative and dangerous. Can they be challenged in their aim to make all women over the age of 18 into second-class citizens?
