EXTRACT

George Mugohe forgot for a moment his neighbors’ tragedy and opened the front door of his house located in one of the outskirts of Kigali capital city at Kacyiru. He switched on the light in vain. Surprisingly enough, he was in dark although he had paid the bill for water and electricity. “All buildings have electricity except mine; how come?” he inwardly asked himself. After eating his evening meal, he entered his bedroom with a candle. To his great amazement, he saw with his very eyes a wonderful, nude young lady in his wonderful bed, adoringly looking at him, removing her wonderful, tiny, white drawers, smiling at him; Caroline Mutima’s ghost remained silent. His first wife’s ghost had just appeared to him for the first time. Caroline Mutima had died two years before. It was on Thursday, in June, one month before George Mugohe’s second marriage. The elementary school teacher at Kacyiru would marry Claudine Rebero, a nurse aged twenty-one, working at the same place. George Mugohe was born at Save, in Butare district, thirty-six years before. He had left Save, where he had been teaching for fourteen years. He had settled at Kacyiru, in Kigali capital city two years before. Claudine Rebero was born at Kanama, in Gisenyi district. Her parents had settled at Kacyiru, in Kigali district, seven years before. When he saw Caroline Mutima’s ghost, George Mugohe surprisingly remained calm. He undressed himself as if he was going to make love to a living lady. Once in bed, George Mugohe got more surprised when his first wife’s ghost began to caress him, adoringly looking at him, marvelously smiling at him, but without uttering a single word; George Mugohe’s first wife’s ghost caressed his whole body, paying more attention to his genitals. When his penis released abundant sperm, the ghost disappeared at once. George Mugohe’s inner voices intervened and made comments on the unusual incident. First voice: What a strange incident! Second voice: What a wonderful, seductive lady! Imagine Caroline Mutima when she was seventeen! Third voice: Do you believe what you have just seen? First voice: You must be dreaming indeed. Second voice: Or you are too tired to think properly. Third voice: Imagine Caroline Mutima paying you a visit two years after her death! First voice: Imagine her in such a wonderful shape! She was in a wonderful body as if she were still alive! Second voice: What a splendid, soft body! Third voice: What wonderful caresses! First voice: What a striking incident! By the way, why do you think your first wife’s ghost has just appeared to you? Second voice: Undoubtedly, you are going to die! Third voice: She must be ready to welcome you in the invisible world! First voice: Are you ready to die? Second voice: Who will marry your sweet friend Claudine Rebero if you die? Third voice: You cannot die before marrying her. First voice: You won’t die so early; God won’t do that. Second voice: You are too young to die indeed. Third voice: Thousands of younger people die every day! Why not you? First voice: God loves you too much to let you die so young. Imagine dying at the age of thirty-six! Second voice: It would be a horrible thing indeed. Third voice: Who would inherit your belongings? First voice: You cannot die before marrying Claudine Rebero. Second voice: Younger people admire her very much. One of them will marry her if you die. She is too luscious to remain single for a long time. Third voice: Ghosts are omens of imminent disaster. First voice: That’s right. Second voice: Former partners’ ghosts portend painful misfortunes to come soon. Third voice: Caroline Mutima’s ghost undoubtedly wants you to join her in the invisible world. Imagine you dead! You are too young to die!
