France before the revolution: aristocrats live in obscene luxury, regarding the lower orders as playthings for their amusement. Henri, Marquis de Maichaux, maintains a retreat on an isolated part of his estate called the High House. To this palace of evil pleasures the Marquis and his equally sadistic friends bring young girls, to be subjected to the most barbaric and perverted treatments that the mind of man can devise. But as time goes on, the Marquis grows jaded, needing to work ever more and more sickening acts of cruelty to keep himself amused. The addition of a darkly sensuous woman to the inner circle of abusers provides a fresh stimulus for a while, but ultimately the Marquis's pleasure can only be served by the invention of new torments and humiliations for the girls. Being violated by a woman with a rough, splintering wooden dildo and being covered in rotting food to attract rats are not the worst cruelties which the Marquis and his companions can invent: they are merely steps on the road to worse horrors...
