Helen was an inveterate smoker, a thirty a day woman, but
now she was under severe pressure to give it up. Her husband
was threatening to leave her and was insisting she attended
therapy to help her kick the habit. Six times she’d sat for
an hour talking about her addiction and the benefits of
breaking it. She found it a complete waste of time. Now the
therapist was talking about more intensive group therapy but
was refusing to elaborate on her methods and her use of the
word ‘humiliation’. However she was claiming a good success
rate, with most clients not needing to attend more than four
times before being ‘cured’. So with some reluctance Helen
attends the Sunday afternoon session and discovers exactly
what ‘humiliation’ means and that the methods employed by
the therapist are more ‘intense’ than any she has previously
experienced.
This is the first part of a trilogy describing Helen’s
strict regime to break her addiction from Ari Stow.
